Our company began in 2006 after a life altering circumstance. Scott Chaney became a 'cast off employee' after a 26 year career with a major corporation.
Instead of seeking another corporate position he decided to do what he loves. Design and camp. Having an empty nest, he and his wife downsized their camping equipment but were unable to find any tent or small RV that was towable by a small car and be comfortable.
Scott discovered roof top tents used on safari in South Africa and Australia, ordered one then built a diamond plate trailer. The first Tent Topped Camping Trailer was born!
After receiving positive feedback at campgrounds and wherever he went with this first trailer, he decided to design and construct a flagship model. The Explorer Box.
Attending local Outdoor Shows and camping locally spread the word that there was a new product on the market. It is also unique in that it is primarily offered as a do-it-yourself project. Compact Camping Concepts, LLC offers an 85 page build manual for sale with telephone support and kits available for purchase. Customers may order the Explorer Box at any level of completion or ready made.
This Explorer Box weighs in under 400 pounds dry and can be towed by most small, fuel efficient vehicles. More models are being built and are soon to be released.
The tent units offered by Compact Camping Concepts have also evolved into a DIY project offering. Calling on his considerable design capabilities; Scott designed and constructed a tent unit to mount on the Explorer Box or any camping box. The M.O.A.B. (Mobile Outdoor Adventure Bedroom) is made in the USA by a well respected tent manufacturer. The M.O.A.B. Tent Unit is unique to the market as the only DIY folding tent unit and the only USA made folding tent unit.
