Explorer Pod Frame

The Explorer Pod will have a “soft-ride” suspension for some off-pavement towing.  That means using vehicle grade springs, not off the shelf trailer springs.  The springs are Jeep YJ units that have been tuned by removing leafs for my planned 1000 GVW.  When compared to standard trailer springs, they actually absorb bumps and transmit notably less jarring to the trailer.  This means no more broken bottles and other vibration related issues.  When I stand on a YJ spring, it deflects ~3/4". When I jump up and down on a standard trailer spring, they hardly move.  Maybe next time I’ll go for the ultimate in trailer suspensions and use an “Adventure Trailer” independent air-bag system.

Here are the front hangers; I had to shorten them so they would fit correctly.

Here are the springs mounted up and the shock setup.

I’m tried of replacing damaged rear stabilizer jack so I made them removable. The receiver tubes will also be used for a kayak rack.
