Magneta Frames

For many DIYers, a shippable, bolt together frame kit is a cost effective starting point for building a Tent Topped Camping Trailer®.

We’ve looked at many of the leading bolt-together kits, one stands out ahead of the others from our perceptive, Magneta trailers.  Most kits use C-channel frame members, they use square tubing.  This makes for a stronger and more rigid frame.  They are also USA made and have the flexibility necessary to work with us on optimizing their kit for our application.  So, for the extra money I believe you’re getting a better product than a imported C-channel frame kit.

The frame kit is a modified version of their 4’ x 6’ flat bed EUT46 trailer.  The kit came in three boxes; the frame, the axle and miscellaneous parts.  I ordered mine without tire/rims because I had spare sets. For someone with average mechanical abilities it should take 1-3 hrs to assemble.

Ever wonder what happens to all those shredded documents?  I found them.  I like their eco-friendly packaging, no static charged packing peanuts sticking to everything.

Here you see most of the parts laid out.

Here the bed frame components are laid out ready for assembly.

The bed frame is assembled with six bolts.  I added washers to the four bolt heads on the outside of the frame.  At this point just snug up the frame bolts, they’ll be tightened after the trailer box is attached.

Next you bolt the springs, axle and tongue on.  When attaching the tongue I replace the front tilt pin with a 1/2" x  3 1/2" grade 8 bolt with nyloc nut.

Then you flip it over, and mount the tires.

Next, I mount a tongue jack (purchased separately).  Most bolt on jacks work fine.  I position it 22" - 24" from the front of the trailer frame.

Then I add rear stabilizer jacks (purchased separately).  Mounting the jacks requires the making of a simple "L" bracket from 2" x 1" - 1/8" material, two per side.  We also have the brackets available for purchase.  The brackets mount on the rear corner frame bolts and use 5/16" x 3/4" bolts to attach the jacks.

Fenders, wiring and lights are added after your trailer box is completed and attached to the frame.  The completed frame weighs in at around 180 pounds with 5.30 x 12" tires.
